FAQs For Parents

  1. Will my student have to attend the Kansas City School District?

Your student may enroll at a school within the Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS), another charter school within the District, a private school or a parochial school–the choice is yours.¬† Here is a link to Show Me KC Schools for assistance in choosing a school for your student, this organization will also be at the school fairs being hosted by the Transition Team to offer assistance.¬†https://showmekcschools.org/ and here is a link to KCPS District map to identify schools near your home.

  1. How will the lack of full accreditation of the KCPS affect my student?

KCPS is working with the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) to determine enrollment options. This information will be available from KCPS, as well. (https://www.kcpublicschools.org)

 

  1. Will students have bus service if they go to another school?

Most schools provide bus transportation. However, specific transportation information would be available from the school in which your student is enrolling.

 

  1. What will be the last day for students to obtain transcripts?

If a student is enrolled in a new school prior to June 30, 2018, the records will be transferred to the new school, upon request. The school is working with KCPS and DESE to determine a system for ensuring proper transfer of records after that date. This information will be provided at the end of the school year.

 

  1. Where can I get a copy of my student’s records after the school closes?

  1. What schools have a strong educational program?

During the Student School Fairs, representatives from individual schools will provide specific information to address this question.

 

Questions to Ask at the School Fairs:

  • What is the grade span of your school?
  • Do you have bus service?
  • Do you offer before and/or after school care?
  • What time does your school begin?
  • How are your test scores? How will I know my child will get a quality education?
  • How do you deal with discipline infractions?
  • Are there any costs to attend your school?
  • Tell me about your special education program (if applicable)
  • Do you offer music, art and PE? Are there any other special programs you offer?
  • Will my child have access to computers? How are they used in your school?
